In the most northern province of the Netherlands lies the quaint city of Appingedam. It's such a charming place, that when Ria and Piet Veld sold their previous house there eighteen years ago, they didn't want to leave. The only other property for sale at the time was this Scandinavian-style cottage, which, while cute and full of character, looked dark and small due to all the wood paneling. Its location next to one of the city's many canals, though, was absolutely perfect. So Piet and Ria took the plunge and have never looked back or regretted the move.
