Q: I have a light switch on my wall in my living room and bedroom. Unfortunately, there is no obvious light fixture either place, and the switches do not control any outlets. What is the best way to check if there is a box in the ceiling, short of putting a hole in the ceiling? I know I could call an electrician, and may if I find out there is a box. I have asked the super, but he forgets. And to be honest, I don't trust his work. Is there a tool of some type to check if there is electricity there? I love DIY but electricity scares me a bit.
