Best Irish Pubs in Phoenix

St. Patrick’s Day is just a few weeks away, and what better way to celebrate than at an Irish pub? As luck of the Irish would have it, many of Phoenix’s local pubs cater to the Irish and Irish at heart. From a North Phoenix bar that was the first to sell Guinness in the Valley to a downtown bar with one of the best selections of Scotch and Irish whiskey in the entire state, check out these Irish pubs in Phoenix where you can get your drink on.

Irish Wolfhound

Sports rule at the laid-back Irish Wolfhound in Surprise, Arizona. During football season, Packers fans flock here to watch their favorite team. Chow down on specials like the Irish Breakfast Burger, “the ultimate ground Angus burger topped with rashers, sliced bangers, grilled tomato, a fried egg and melted cheddar cheese. Served on a fresh baked kaiser roll.” Pair your Irish fare with traditional Irish beers like Murphy’s Stout and Killian’s Irish Red. For the more studious crowd, the bar also hosts trivia nights twice a week.

The Dubliner

Since 1985, North Valley’s The Dubliner has offered an upbeat atmosphere complete with live music and darts. Feast on traditional Irish plates like Shepherd’s Pie, corned beef and cabbage, and bangers and mash. According to the Phoenix New Times, this spot was also the first bar to sell Guinness in the Valley—upping this place’s reputation as a bona fide Irish bar. Pro tip: try the stout; it’s on tap here at this haunt.

Rula Bula

Located in the heart of downtown Tempe on Mill Avenue, Rula Bula is a lively spot that’s all decked out with a wooden bar and chairs. The bar’s name is taken from the Irish Gaelic language expression “rí rá agus ruaille buaille” meaning “uproar and commotion in a celebratory time.” Guests can order heavy plates like bangers and mash and house wings slathered in homemade Guinness BBQ sauce at the beautiful and gleaming wooden bar. Whiskey flights and Irish whiskey are drink menu highlights here.

Skeptical Chymist in Scottsdale

North Scottsdale’s the Skeptical Chymist pays homage to Ireland’s contribution to, yes, chemistry. According to the site, “The name Skeptical Chymist came from a book written by Robert Boyle, a gentleman born in Cork, Ireland in 1627. The book became the cornerstone of modern day chemistry, and changed the thinking at the time of many apothecarists ‘chymists.’”

The bar is shaped like a traditional apothecary with many tiny drawers on the wall, and the large, light-filled space also has bookshelves on the walls. This is also an official Seattle Seahawks bar. The bar menu features beer, wine, and of course, Guinness. Chow down on heavy Irish fare like all day Irish breakfast, beef Wellington, and a Guinness Chocolate Brownie.
