There are all kinds of sports fans out there, and if you ask us, one of the best kinds is the drinking kind. There’s nothing better than cheering on our favorite teams with a myriad of delightful libations, and what better libations than those with a backstory tied to the sport itself? With that in mind, we’ve assembled a lineup of 10 of our favorite baseball-themed cocktails.

The Highball: As it was said on HBO’s special “Babe Ruth,” the man was as famous for “hitting long balls” as he was for “downing highballs.”
It all stems from the man’s legendary propensity for drink, including one night when a White Sox-friendly bartender overserved the ace slugger the night before a big game, only to watch Ruth hit ball after ball out of the park, hangover and all.
-Fill a chilled highball glass with ice
-Add 2 oz of preferred whiskey
-Top up with ginger ale
-Garnish with lemon peel
Black Velvet: Baseball and beer are one and the same, but sometimes you might want to mix it up a bit. Still, that doesn’t mean you need to abandon beer altogether; maybe just get a little creative. Enter the Black Velvet.
-Take a chilled tulip pint glass
-Fill halfway with prefered Irish stout
-Top up with champagne
Boilermaker: As pure as the sport itself. What could be simpler than a half-pint of your favorite beer and a shot of whiskey plunked down into it? Set up a round with your buds, slam ‘em back and do it all over again (but not right away, if you want to last nine innings).
-Fill a chilled pint glass with preferred beer (to a depth greater than a shot glass)
-Drop a shot of whiskey into it and consume as quickly as possible
The Mickey Mantle: Though the all-star’s preference for the drink was the stuff of legend, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that his later life was plagued by the demons of alcoholism. So if you’re going to try this signature drink, we suggest you don’t treat it as a supplement for breakfast, which is how Mantle used it day in, day out.
As outlined in a 1994 Sports Illustrated profile:
-Fill a lowball glass with ice
-Add two (or more) shots of brandy
-Top with cream and finish with Kahlua to taste
The Golden Glove: This refreshing rum cocktail is a cousin of the daiquiri, and it’s perfect for beating the summer heat as your favorite team starts setting up for a pennant run.
-2 oz rum
-1 tsp cointreau
-0.5 oz fresh lime juice
-1 tsp sugar
Mix all the ingredients into a shaker filled with ice and strain over crushed ice into a rocks glass. Garnish with lime.

The Cooperstown Cocktail: Basically baseball mecca, Cooperstown deserves a drink as historic and classy as anything out there, which is where this tasty gin-based concoction excels.
-1.75 oz gin
-0.75 oz vermouth
-0.75 oz dry vermouth
-A few dashes of orange bitters
Combine in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a cocktail glass.
Wild Thing: Those of a certain generation will be familiar with the hilarious Major League films and with that iconic Charlie Sheen pitcher nicknamed “Wild Thing.” Plus, nobody enjoys watching your team scramble after a wild pitch, so why not have a cocktail to soothe the pain?
-2 oz tequila
-1 oz cranberry juice
-1 Tbsp lime juice
Combine in a rocks glass, add ice and stir, then top off with club soda.
Air Mail: Just like when a thrower misses his intended target (often by a mile), air mail is often used as slang for something that misses the mark. This cocktail, however, is anything but.
-1 oz rum
-0.5 oz lime juice
-0.5 oz honey syrup
-Champagne
Combine rum, lime juice and syrup. Shake with ice and pour into a champagne flute. Top off with champagne.
Take Me Out to the Ballgame: Named for the tune traditionally sung during the seventh inning stretch, this is probably the only drink out there that has incorporated the classic ballpark snack food Cracker Jacks into the mix.
-2 oz bourbon
-1 oz hazelnut liqueur
-1 oz amaretto
-Squeeze of lemon juice
Combine above ingredients in a shaker filled with ice. Prepare a tall drink glass by rimming it with a lemon wedge and then encrusting it with crushed Cracker Jacks. Strain the mixture into the glass filled with ice, then top with soda water.

The Wade Boggs: Okay, so this one might seem like it’s phoned in … the drink equivalent of a bunt, but the fact remains that beer is the quintessential baseball drink. Beer is so closely tied to baseball that Wade Boggs once famously (and allegedly) drank 64 of them on a cross-country flight to his next game. So no matter what, when it comes to watching a few innings of America’s pastime, there’s no better choice than an ice cold American beer (and maybe some salted peanuts).
-Fill your carry-on baggage with beer (Who can afford airline prices?)
-Drink beer from wheels up until you hit the tarmac. Layovers and taxis to or from airports are fair game (so says Boggs).
