5 DIY Projects to Turn Your Apartment into a Winter Wonderland

Just because the holidays are over doesn't mean all of the decorations need to come down. Everyone loves coming home to an apartment decorated according to the season.

Take your apartment from "Christmas Dreamland" to "Winter Wonderland" in a flash with a few pieces of easy DIY winter decor.

1. Silver pinecones

This is an easy 10-minute project that anyone can do. You can put the pinecones in a bowl or vase as a centerpiece or use them as accents in other winter displays.

Collect some pinecones (or you can buy them online or from a craft store) and give them two to three coats of silver spray paint, allowing them to dry in between coats.

2. Frosted luminary

These simple lanterns can give your table or mantle a soft wintry glow.

Use any type of opaque glass vase, bowl or jar and paint it with a heavy coat of mod podge. Roll your luminary in a tray of epsom salt and make sure it is completely coated. Let it dry and put a candle or string of fairy lights inside.

Feel free to use hot glue to attach other decorations like ribbon, leaves, or jewels. If using a mason jar, you can also wrap a wire around the top and make it into a hanging lantern.

3. Hot glue snowflakes

You'll be able to create a million one-of-a-kind snowflakes in no time. These will help give your apartment a real wonderland touch with just a few affordable art supplies.

Print out some snowflake designs (or draw them on a sheet of paper) and place them underneath a sheet of parchment paper. Trace over the designs with a hot glue gun and let the glue cool.

Remove the snowflake designs from the parchment and paint a coat of mod podge over each one. Sprinkle glitter over the snowflakes and let them dry. If you want to hang them, you can tie string in a loop and hot glue the string to a snowflake.

4. Iced branches

Here's another quick project that will take you only 10 minutes but will look like you spent hours. These branches bring the outdoors into your apartment in the best way.

All you need is spray-on adhesive and epsom salt. Spray a small section of a branch with the adhesive and sprinkle with epsom salt. Repeat the process until the branches are entirely covered. One coat of adhesive and salt will give your branches a lightly frosted look. If you'd like a heavier, icy look, add a second coat using the same method.

If you want to take a glittery approach, you can spray paint the branches silver beforehand and mix glitter in with the epsom salt.

5. Pinecone wreath

If you want to really turn your apartment into a winter wonderland, a wreath is essential.

Using a wire wreath form (purchased online or any craft store), hot glue pinecones as you see fit. You can give it depth by adding two or three layers of pinecones, or if you don't want it to be as big you can just do one.

Once all of your layers are secured, wait for the glue to cool and spray paint the entire wreath white, silver or another wintry shade. Glue on additional elements like berries or evergreen trimmings to add more color.
