When the spring semester comes to an end, students are anticipating summer time off. So if you have had a rough semester and it’s finally taken its toll on your stress levels, you need a well-deserved break. However, you can easily get used to a fast paced lifestyle. Therefore, you may be ask yourself, “What am I going to do with all this time?”. There are plenty of things to keep yourself entertained this summer. Here are 8 things every college student can do!
Catch up with friends: Most likely you parted ways with most, if not all of your high school friends. So now that you have the time off from school, get in touch with your old besties and catch up on life. There are so many things to do with them! Go camping, see a movie, or even get some sun at the beach if you live nearby the water! Either way you have the opportunity to fill each other in on the college life.
Internship: Your summer break is actually a good time complete an internship. They not only help you expand on your education and real-world experience in your desired field, but they truly do increase your chances of getting hired after graduation. Even if you’re still unsure about your career path, an internship is a great opportunity for you to explore career options, while building your resume.
Summer job: If you are not interning over the break, consider getting a part-time job. Employers are aware that when the summer starts, there will be an influx of younger adults searching for jobs, especially at restaurants, small food shops, retail stores and more. Even though it’s short-term, money is money. Save as much as you can because this will help the following academic year.
Summer semester: Whether you want to take a convenient online class or stay on campus with in-person classes, a summer semester is beneficial for students who want to either finish school early or don’t like taking a full course load during the fall/spring semesters. And what nice about these classes, is that they are short – typically no longer than 6 weeks on average. Volunteer: Volunteering doesn’t have to feel like a chore. Signing up as a volunteers actually provides you with a new perspective on life around you and you can also gain new skills as well – whether it’s what you are working or pure social skills. Experiencing new situations like this can enrich you summer because you contributed to a cause and supported an organization in their efforts toward a cause. Volunteering jobs include: cleaning up the environment, feeding the homeless, helping with animals, helping with children in the community; the list is really endless. Also, you can add this to your resume as well!
Catch up on your reading (the fun books): You may be tired of reading from school, but now you have the time and the choice of what you WANT to read as opposed to required to read! Unwind after a long day out with friends or summer job/internship, and sit down with a good book. Visit your local public library to rent or purchase from a bookstore – well, mostly you’ll order something from Amazon. Either way this is a great way to learn something new and keep your reading skills sharp for the following academic year.
