A Breakfast Casserole Built for Holiday Entertaining
The holiday season is officially upon us. Whether you’re planning for overnight guests during the season or simply hosting breakfast for family or friends at your apartment, today I wanted to share a breakfast casserole built for holiday entertaining.

Let’s be honest, the holiday season can get a bit chaotic. The more you can do to plan and prepare in advance, the better. And this Holiday Entertaining Breakfast Casserole will allow you to do just that.

You can whip it up in about 20 minutes in the evening, and it will be ready to pop in the oven the next morning. No work required. Sit back, enjoy the amazing aroma of this dish, and sip on your coffee. That’s it.

This casserole comes together by cubing a loaf of french bread. Day old is best. Mix the cubed bread with ham, chopped pepper, and lots of cheese. Feel free to get creative. Toss in any vegetables you’d like or use your favorite cheese. The options are almost endless.

With all of that ready, you’ll whisk the eggs, milk, and spices. My one recommendation is that you use fresh thyme. The smell of this casserole baking in the morning will instantly fill your apartment with holiday aroma. It’s basically magic.

Anyway, this egg mixture gets poured over the bread mixture. You can bake it right away, or pop it in the refrigerator to bake in the morning. It’s that easy. You’re welcome.

  • 1teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions
  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Fill with the bread, ham, peppers, and cheese. Mix to evenly combine.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, fresh thyme, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture on top of the bread mixture. Gently press down the bread with a spoon. Sprinkle with shredded Parmesan cheese.
  3. Bake 50-55 minutes until the eggs are cooked through. Cover the pan with aluminum foil if the top begins to brown too quickly. (If preparing the casserole in advance, cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and refrigerate overnight. Bake as directed.)
  4. Garnish with fresh thyme, and slice to serve.

It’s a simple dish, but it makes the perfect warm and hearty holiday breakfast. You can serve this with roasted potatoes, or go the easy route and just offer fresh fruit and berries on the side. (You might also chop these up the night before to minimize morning work.)
