How to Clean Kitchen Cabinets

You probably have everything you need to clean your kitchen cabinets on hand right now. The items in your pantry have amazing cleaning power and you can put that power to work in your kitchen. There are actually a few options for cleaning your cabinets depending on how much dirt and grease is accumulated on them. One of the three methods below should cut even the toughest messes. Before you get started, remember to test each method on an inconspicuous part of your cabinets to test on your surface. Not all methods are safe for all surfaces.

Start simple with just baking soda and water. Baking soda has amazing cleaning power and can cut through the grime on your cabinets. Sprinkle a little on a damp sponge and start scrubbing on your cabinet. Rinse your sponge occasionally and apply more baking soda to your sponge as needed. Be sure to rinse away any residue on your cabinets with water.

I washed down a few of my own cabinets using this method. In the end, my water was dirty and my cabinets were cleaner. That is the power of an all natural cleaner like baking soda. But sometimes the gunk on your cabinets is a little too much for this method. You can move onto our next cleaner recipe which is a bit tougher.

Mix baking soda and vinegar in a container until it becomes a paste. Remember that these two will have a bubbling reaction but it is safe to mix the two. The combination of these two is a very powerful cleaner that should help us to cut any mess left on those cabinets.

The paste should look like the image above when it is ready to be used. Just apply with a sponge to your cabinets and scrub well. Rinse well with water and be sure to remove any and all residue.

I used this method on the same cabinets that I washed with just baking soda above. Again I was left with some grimy water and a cleaner cabinet. This just proves that this method will be a little more aggressive.

You might also have grease on your cabinets from cooking. This residue can be tough to cut through and get off of the surfaces in your kitchen. Use a good quality dish detergent that is meant for cutting grease. Add about 2 tablespoons of the soap to 2 cups of warm water. Mix well and then start wiping down your kitchen cabinets. That grease should be lifted in no time at all.
